Sustainable, productive communities that balance and integrate the social, economic and environmental components of their local area benefit the residents, businesses and future generations.
As a large business we take seriously our responsibilities to the communities in which we work, the companies with whom we do business and everyone who we employ.
The EnterpriseFoundation is a key component of our commitment to community cohesion and well being and was created to link frontline service delivery programmes with economic and social improvement projects. This is achieved by developing a programme in partnership with our customers, based on local social objectives. Projects can include supporting social enterprises, accessing support and funding for community projects and encouraging education and training programmes.
Employment and training play a crucial role in a sustainable cohesive community. We work alongside other organisations to provide training programmes to disadvantaged groups, such as the long term unemployed and ex-offenders. These schemes help us by providing trained workers with qualifications and experience and the local communities benefit from increased employment.
Our DSP model is centred around the development and support of small, local businesses providing the skills and expertise we need. We offer training, equipment and business services. This model gives us flexibility, a local resource base and local traders an opportunity to develop their business with our assistance, thereby stimulating the local economy.
