Enterprise International is currently focused on the following geographical areas:
• Central Europe
This area has been at the heart of our international work for over ten years. During this time, Enterprise has established a reputation as “hands on” practitioners who achieve sustainable results. In the period leading up to membership of the European Union for many of the countries in the region, we are focusing much of our work in supporting this process of accession. Our track record in Central Europe, our network of Central European Offices and our experience in Structural Funds makes us well positioned to deal with the many challenges faced by accession to the EU.
• The Former Soviet Union
We have worked in the former Soviet Union since the early days following its break up. During this time we have built an in-depth knowledge of the political and economic issues which are essential to an understanding of the region and its people. This has been helped by the fact that our core team includes Russian speakers. We have recently finished working on major projects in Russia and are currently working on complex donor funded projects in Ukraine and Central Asia.
• The Balkans
Enterprise has an in-depth understanding of working in post-conflict zones. Its experience of working on economic development projects in Northern Ireland, funded by the Peace and Reconciliation Initiative has equipped the company with an understanding of the issues and problems arising in the different countries in the Balkans. We have been working in Bosnia for a number of years on regional development projects and has recently been awarded a regional development project in Serbia working for the European Agency for Reconstruction. The company has a project office in Belgrade.
• China
Enterprise is currently involved in a major EU funded investment promotion project in China, targeting SMEs in specific growth sectors. Study visits to the UK for Chinese officials have been organised to learn about business support to SMEs, best practice in investment promotion and clustering in bio-technology. Study tours have also been organized to numerous destinations in China.
• Caribbean and South Atlantic
We continue to target these regions with recent experience including a private sector development project on Montserrat, a management training evaluation in Aruba and a review of St Helena Development Agency. Prior to this we delivered a small business support programme in Trinidad and Tobago.
• Mediterranean and the Middle East
Having managed EU Mediterranean initiatives covering economic, social and environmental regeneration and, through our involvement in communities stretching geographically from Gibraltar to Egypt, we have progressively developed our expertise and built up our knowledge of this region, and are now looking to expand our activities there.
• Africa
Enterprise has worked on projects in Uganda and South Africa and has organised a number of trade delegations to the region. We feel that our community based work, both in the United Kingdom and in developing countries, and the adoption of an inclusive approach to economic development, will be especially useful in Southern Africa and help us to make a significant impact.
In addition to our focus in some geographical areas, we are intent on becoming a global company, able to work anywhere in the world where our services are in demand and when we can make a significant contribution.
