Community Initiatives in Greater London

The Royal Parks
We provide grounds maintenance services to all three of the Royal Parks in London. To ‘give back’ to the local community, when the tools we use become damaged we donate them to Wandsworth prison for inmates to repair. Once suitable for use the tools are then sent to local schools to help with their outdoor gardening activities.

Holland Walk Estate Community Fun Day, Islington
Enterprise took part in the Holland Walk Estate Community Fun Day 2010. The event was hosted at the St. Johns Community Centre on the Holland Walk estate. During the day the Enterprise team were on-hand to discuss and advise residents on energy saving techniques to complement the energy saving home insulation works it is delivering on the estate. Many children entered into the colouring competition Enterprise held to promote awareness of ‘green’ issues.

Transitional Employment Partnership (TEP) launched in Islington
The Enterprise Foundation targets initiatives that benefit the communities in which we work. The Transitional Employment Partnership (TEP) was launched in Islington to offer a structured programme of mentoring and training for the long term unemployed in the Borough. The aim is to provide an employer-led pathway to training that in turn creates sustainable employment. All those on the programme receive regular support and have the opportunity to study for relevant NVQs. The scheme has proved to be a success, with 12 out of the initial 16 being offered a position at Enterprise upon completion of the programme.

Rail in the Community
To establish links with the local area the rail teams decided to do a presentation to local schools. The presentation introduced the company, explained its scope of work and encouraged young people to consider future careers at Enterprise. East Barnet School and Mill Hill County High School were the first to be presented to.

Islington in Bloom
Enterprise has worked in partnership with the London Borough of Islington since 1998. On 1 January 2009, Enterprise extended the scope of services to provide Grounds Maintenance work. By using our existing knowledge of the area and our award winning grounds maintenance experience from other contracts, the London Borough of Islington became the first Borough to win the new award 'Overall Winner of London in Bloom'. The 'Britain in Bloom' entry was also a great success with Enterprise supporting Islington in its achievement of a Silver Guild. This is a very high achievement and it is challenging for entrants to gain this level of award in their first year of running.

London Borough of Haringey Work Placement Scheme
In the London Borough of Haringey we have developed a work placement scheme that helps tackle the issue of providing local employment, especially for the long term unemployed. It aims to benefit the local community and has been in operation since 2003. Trainees are able to obtain work experience whilst gaining support and assistance to actively find permanent employment. To date we have employed over 20 trainees.

Recycled Rainforest in the London Borough of Redbridge
To celebrate the first ever ‘Inter Faith Week’ at the end of 2009 Enterprise and the London Borough of Redbridge recycling team organised a community art project which aimed to unite people of all faiths in stewardship of the Earth. A giant rainforest collage was created from old clothes and fabrics and was displayed at Ilford Central Library. Recycling officers have also visited local faith schools and faith groups to create animals for the forest.
